현대하이카 김혜경씨 홀로 아이를 키우며 경제적 어려움에 시달리던 싱글맘이 보험회사 입사 1년여 만에 사내 보험왕 자리에 오르는 기염을 토했다. 현대하이카다이렉트는 15일 콜센터 상담직원(SR) 김혜경(36·사진)씨가 올해 '하이카다이렉트 베스트 SR 어워즈'에서 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 작년 1월 입사한 김씨는 지난해 하루 120여통씩, 연간 3만여명과 전화상담을 해서 8억원의 실적을 올려 1억원에 가까운 수입을 챙겼다.
하이카다이렉트 관계자는 "고객의 정보를 토대로 전화를 걸어 가입을 유도하는 아웃바운드 실적임을 감안하면 독보적인 실적"이라고 말했다. 김씨는 아이를 홀로 키우며 건축사 사무실 경리직원, 미용실 보조원 등 여러 직업을 거쳤다. 어렵게 생계를 꾸려오던 그는 여성교육센터의 텔레마케팅 교육을 받고 취직을 한 이래 실적에 따라 수입이 보장되는 직업을 놓치지 않기 위해 쉴새 없이 전화에 매달렸고, 어린 동료들보다 하루 30∼40통 이상 더 많이 통화한 끝에 보험왕이 됐다. 그는 "긍정적인 마음으로 일을 즐기는 것이야말로 현실의 어려움을 극복하는 가장 좋은 방법"이라고 말했다.

텝스는 대한민국의 실정에 맞추어서 토익, 토플 시험을 대체하는 영어시험을 개발해보고자하는 취지에서 만들어진 시험이다. 서울대의 연구소에서 만들었고, 조선일보사에서 지원을 하고 있다. 따라서 대한민국 정부와 교육단체에서는 텝스시험 성적을 영어시험으로 채택하고 있다. 텝스의 문법은 다른 두 시험에 비해서 좀 더 문어적이고 까다로운 편이다. 한국인들이 취약한 문법문제가 많이 출제되기도 한다. 또한 듣기와 읽기에 반응할 수 있는 시간을 최소한으로 하여, 문제에 대한 즉각적인 반응을 할 수 있을 정도의 내재화된 지식을 측정하고자 한다. 추측으로 문제를 풀어볼 시간을 배제하는 것이다. 또한 상대평가를 하므로, 시험결과 점수의 차이가 별의미가 없으며 대신 내가 몇퍼센트의 통과율을 보이고있는지 상대적이고 신뢰할 수 있는 평가결과를 얻을 수 있다. 따라서, 텝스 시험에서 고득점을 하는 사람은 토익이나 토플에서 고득점자보다 회화능력과 문법실력이 더욱 탄탄한 사람임에는 틀림없다.

The Center for Women and Infants at University Hospital takes a personal approach when it comes to caring for newborn infants and their mothers with Kangaroo Care.

During Kangaroo Care sessions, the baby—dressed only in a diaper and hat—rests against the mother's chest, skin-to-skin. This physical contact promotes bonding and breastfeeding between mother and baby. It provides a warm environment for the newborn baby to transition to the outside world immediately after delivery.

There is no maximum duration for Kangaroo Care; some mothers may keep their babies skin-to-skin for many hours each day. Fathers are encouraged to Kangaroo their newborn baby after the first four hours of life. Kangaroo Care is promoted throughout the hospital stay at University Hospital and is recommended daily once mother and baby are home.

The practice of mother and baby “skin-to-skin” is called Kangaroo Care because it is similar to how a baby joey is carried by the mother kangaroo.

Kangaroo Care is not only good for full-term newborns but for premature babies as well. Babies in the WHAS Crusade for Children Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital are held “skin-to-skin” by their mother or father for important medical reasons. Researchers have found that the skin-to-skin contact with the mother can help to stabilize the preterm infant's heartbeat, temperature, and breathing. Preterm infants often have difficulty regulating their breathing and heart rate. Researchers also have found that mothers who use kangaroo care often have more success with breastfeeding and improve their milk supply. Further, researchers have found that preterm infants who experience kangaroo care have longer periods of sleep, gain more weight, decrease their crying, have longer periods of alertness, and earlier hospital discharge.

립스틱, 립글로스, 립밤의 차이

립스틱ㆍ립글로스ㆍ립밤, 도대체 무슨 차이가…


'키스를 부르는 입술~'보통 촉촉하고 도톰한 입술은 '섹시함'을 상징하는 신체 부위로 통한다. 하지만 건조하고 찬기운이 가득한 겨울철이면 어김없이 입술에선 하얀 각질들이 일어나 여성들의 신경을 거슬리게 만든다.

이를 겨냥해 화장품업체들은 립스틱,립글로스,립밤,립케어 등 각종 립 제품을 쏟아낸다. 종류가 너무 많아 어떤 것을 고를지 망설여진다. 도대체 어떤 차이가 있기에….

성분이나 기능의 차이가 있다. 립스틱(lipstick)은 주로 입술에 색을 입히기 위해 사용한다. 스틱 형태를 유지하기 위해 다량의 왁스로 만든다. 여기에 입술을 촉촉하게 보호해 주는 페이스트ㆍ오일ㆍ보습원료가 50%,입술에 밀착시키기 위한 파우더 성분,다양한 색상을 표현해 주는 색소(보통 20%)가 들어간다.

립글로스(lip－gloss)는 립스틱과 비슷한 기능을 하지만 리퀴드 형태다. 고광택의 폴리머 성분이나 오일 함량으로 구성돼 있어 입술을 보다 윤기있고 촉촉하게 만들지만 색소나 왁스 함량이 적어 발색력이나 밀착력이 낮다. 국내에선 2000년 초반 이후 립글로스를 애용해 오고 있다. 립글로스만을 많이 사용하지만,최근엔 립스틱 위에 덧발라 윤기나 펄감을 연출한다.

립밤(lip-balm)은 손상된 입술을 개선해 주거나,입술 손상을 예방하기 위해 사용하는 립 케어 제품이다. 80% 이상이 보습 원료로 보습ㆍ각질ㆍ주름 등 입술을 관리해 준다. 입술은 일반 피부보다 얇고 수분 손실이 쉽기 때문에 립밤은 도톰하게 발라지며,촉촉함이 오래 지속될 수 있도록 딱딱한 형태를 띠고 있다. 하지만 최근엔 젤 타입，버터 타입，리퀴드 타입，스틱 타입 등 다양한 제품들이 출시되고 있다.

유사보어
일반적으로 “보어”란 주어나 목적어의 성질, 상태 등을 보충 성명해주는 요소로서 크게 2형식의 “주격 보어”와 3형식의 “목적격 보어”로 나눈다. 그런데, 보어가 필요하지 않는 1형식과 3형식 문장에서도 주어를 보충 설명하는 보어가 나타나는데 이를 “준주격보어”와 3형식에만 나타나는 “준목적격보어”가 있다. 이들을 모두 가리켜 “유사보어(보어와 유사하다는 뜻)”라고도 한다.

유사보어와 쓰일 수 있는 동사에는
stand, go return, marry, be born, live, die, sit, come, meet, part 등이 있다. 이런 준주격 보어가 될 수 있는 것은 형용사, 명사, 현재분사, 과거분사 등이다.
유사보어가 쓰인 문장이 1형식이냐, 2형식이냐 하는 형식적인 문제보다는 이를 어떻게 해석하는 것이 자연스러운지 생각하는 것이 바람직하다.

Obama Becomes First Black US President

Barack Obama was elected the first black president of the United States Tuesday night in a historic triumph that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself, the Associated Press reported.

The son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, the Democratic senator from Illinois sealed this victory by defeating Republican Sen. John Mc Cain in a string of wins in hard-fount battle ground states –Ohio, Friday, Virginia and Iowa.

A huge crowd in Grant Park in Chicago erupted in jubilation at the news of Obama’s victory, according to AP.

McCain called his former rival to concede defeat – and the end of his own 10 year quest for the White House. “The American people have spoken, and spoken clearly,” McCain told disappointed supporters in Arizona.

Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaweare, will take their oaths of office as president and vice president on Jan. 20, 2009.

As the 44th president, Obama will move into the Oval Office as leaders of a country that is almost certainly in recession ad fighting two long wars, one in Iraque, the other in Afghanistan.

U.S. president George W. Bush late Tuesday telephoned his apparent successor, Democrat Barack Obama, to congratulate him on his “awesome night,” according to White House spokewoman and Dana Perino.

“Mr. president-elect, congratulations to you. What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters. Laura and I called to congratulate you and your good bride,” she quoted Bush as telling Obama.

The 47-year-old Illinois senator was little known just four years ago. A widely praised speech at the Democratic National Convention, delivered when he was merely a candidate for the Senate, changed that.

Overnight he became a sought-after surrogate campaigner, and he had scarcely settled into his Senate seat when he began preparing for his run for the White House.

South Korean government officials and diplomatic watchers in Seoul said the impending change of administration in Washington will have little impact on the solid alliance between South Korea and the U.S., though Obama is expected to take a different stand toward bilateral trade issues and North Korea from that of his predecessor, according to Yonhap News.

The Office of President Lee Myung-bak is also firmly convinced of the continuation of the strong bilateral alliance under the Obama presidency, as the new U.S. leader has repeatedly pledged to further solidify the U.S.-Korea relationship throughout his campaign.

Lee, widely depicted as a pro-American conservative, has set repairring relations with the U.S. as his top foreign policy priority since his inauguration in February, saying bilateral relations had lacked trust under his liberal predecessors, Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Dae-jung.

Lee’s visit to Camp Daivd, A U.S. presidential retreat, in April for a summit with President George W. Bush, symbolized the restored alliance relations.

The presidential office Cheong Was Dae is now preparing for Lee’s possible encounter with Obama on the sidelines of the upcoming group of 20 financial summit set to take place in Washington on Nov. 15, an official said.

증명되지는 않았으나, 광우병은 소의 고기(뇌, 척수, 내장 등 포함), 또는 그 가공물을 먹은 인간에 전염될 수 있다고 여겨지고 있다. 사람에게 발병하는 병은 크로이츠펠트-야코프병의 새로운 변종으로 알려졌으며, 2008년 4월까지 영국에서 163명, 기타 지역에서 37명이 사망하였고], 잠복기가 긴 광우병의 특성상 그 숫자는 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 1989년에 위험성이 높은 고기에 대한 단속이 도입되기 전에 약 460,000 ~ 482,000 마리의 광우병에 감염된 소들이 인간의 푸드 체인 속에 들어왔다.
한국에서는 아직 광우병에 대한 감염사례가 보고되어 있지 않으며, 미국에서 광우병이 걸린 소가 발견된 2003년 이후로 미국산 쇠고기 수입을 중단·제한하였다가 이명박 정권이 집권한 후에 30개월 이상의 소를 수입한다는 협정이 체결됨으로 광우병은 새로운 불씨로 떠올랐다.
